I'm back home, after a rather interesting evening.

Fortunately the allergic reaction never went beyond the rash stage with a bit of nausea thrown in. No itching (thank the Gods), and no respiratory effects. But George and I sat in the urgent care ward for about three hours waiting for them to proclaim me (a) free of any kidney infection according to their urine test, and (b) safe to go home with the multiple little red spots that are clustered all over my body.

By the time we left the hospital I was exhausted and ravenous, and George (who'd sprung out of bed when I woke him up at 6 pm stating that I was turning red) was simply ravenous. I'd had a hospital vending machine sandwich while we were in the waiting room (gick!), but I was almost an hour overdue to eat by the time we sat down to a meal at Papa George's in Osborne Village (right next to the Shoppers Drug Mart where we picked up the 50 mg antihistamine tablets that will hopefully get the rash under control by tomorrow).

George had fish and chips; I had the "chicken fiesta", which is a chicken breast on top of a slice of smoked ham on top of garlic bread, smothered in mushroom sauce. Then home by cab, and now that I've got an antihistamine in me I'm just hoping that I can stay awake long enough to have a hot bath before it overcomes me with sleepiness.

Thank the Gods it wasn't worse. Sulfa drug reactions can be quite severe and involve not only the skin but the lungs, the kidneys, and the nervous system. If all I came away with are some clusters of red dots I count myself truly fortunate.

I'm sorry if I worried anyone unduly. Tomorrow I'm probably going to be totally brain dead because I have to take two more rounds of antihistamine and according to everything I've been told these little tablets knock you right out of the ballpark. On Monday I have to call my GP and schedule an appointment to get another prescription. I'm truly hoping that I don't end up feeling even more like shit than I currently do as a result of stopping the antibiotic treatment of whatever infection is currently in play.

Thanks to everyone for their kind wishes and support.

I found that it didn't have much of a sedative effect on my last night -- I tossed and turned for almost an hour before falling asleep.

If it doesn't make me that sleepy, maybe I can actually get stuff done today. Yay!

I am glad you are okay! What a bummer to spend you evening uncomfortable and in the hospital :(

Fortunately I wasn't that uncomfortable -- the rash wasn't itchy -- although I WAS constantly worried that the reaction would suddenly get worse and I'd end up choking in the waiting room.

All in all I count myself pretty fortunate.

I was very worried at first, reading of the headache and rash, but rationalized that if you took the time to write an entry, then you would be ok :).

Yep, if the antihistimines are anything like the ones I was on when I had an allergic reaction (to mushrooms..idiots put it in the soup base and didn't tell me..thanks), you'll be knocked out cold.

Blessings, and all the best..get well soon.

Definitely glad you're on the mend! My dad reacted to an antibiotic some years, complete with nausea, hives and swelling throat.

Would you like us to do some healing mojo for you at the Beltaine festivities?

Until then, rest well!

I'd love to have some healing work done for me at Beltane -- I usually don't ask for things like that, but right now I'm pretty miserable.

Thank you for the kind offer. :-)

Yer welcome dah'ling :-) . You helped me when I was on my back at health sciences for a month, so some mojo at Beltaine is no problemo! **hugs** Now get better or I'll send Lobo to kick that infection into submission! (Do y'think I have enough bags of Dolphin chow for that?)
